Base plates we are often asked for

A base plate is a thick steel plate that joins a structure: under a column, at a beam end, cast into concrete. We cut it exactly to the drawing, every hole and chamfer, then weld on whatever the drawing shows.

Column base plate

A square or rectangular plate with anchor-bolt holes, with a box section or pipe column welded on when needed.

Factory columns, pre-engineered steel buildings, canopies

End plates and splice plates with rows of bolt holes that line up exactly between the two plates.

Beam-to-column and beam-to-beam connections
Gusseted base plate

Gusseted base plate

A base plate with triangular stiffeners welded between the plate and the column for heavier loads. The gussets are laser-cut too, so they fit.

Slotted plate

Slots instead of round holes so the position can be adjusted on site. Laser-cut slots are as clean as round holes.

Stainless base plate

Square or round 304 stainless plates that need no galvanizing or paint, with bright edges cut under nitrogen.

Railings, glass canopies, coastal sites, food plants

Other shapes, hole patterns, chamfers and cut-outs are all cut from your drawing.

Common base plate sizes

Bare, galvanized or painted

A base plate outdoors needs protecting from rust. We handle galvanizing and painting through partner plants, so you deal with one supplier.

Bare black steel

Delivered straight after cutting and welding. Suits plates cast into concrete or painted on site.

Hot-dip galvanized

A 45–85 µm zinc coat for plates exposed to the weather. Tell us about threaded holes, which are masked or re-tapped after galvanizing.

Powder coated

Any RAL colour for plates that stay on show, such as railing bases and decorative column feet.

Stainless 304

No coating needed. For coastal sites, damp areas and food plants.

Why laser-cut a base plate

Hand-drilled or punched plates drift by a few millimetres and the bolts will not go in on site. Laser cutting takes the holes straight from the drawing.

Holes where they should be. Holes are cut to the coordinates in the file, within ±0.1 mm, so the anchor bolts go straight in.

Every plate the same. A hundred or a thousand plates come off one cutting program, so any of them fits.

Any shape. Slots, chamfers, cut-outs, round or polygonal plates, with no tooling to make.

Clean edges. Straight edges with little burr, ready for welding or galvanizing.

01 How thick can a base plate be?

We laser-cut steel and stainless plate up to 25 mm, on sheets up to 3,000 × 1,500 mm. For anything larger, we will explain how we would make it when we quote.

02 What is the smallest hole you can cut?

Keep a hole at least as wide as the plate is thick: on a 16 mm plate, holes from Ø16. For smaller holes, we will tell you how we would make them when we quote.

03 Do you take small orders?

Yes, from one piece. Larger orders cost less per plate, because they share one cutting program and nest more plates on each sheet.

04 Can you weld on the column, gussets or anchor bars?

Yes. Gussets, pipe, box section or anchor bars are TIG-welded in our shop to the drawing and delivered as a finished assembly.

05 Where is the hot-dip galvanizing done?

At a partner plant. We handle transport both ways and check the coating thickness when the plates come back. Tell us about threaded holes, because zinc fills the thread.

06 What if I have no drawing?

Write the plate size, thickness and hole positions and diameters on paper and send a photo on Zalo, or send a sample plate. We redraw it and send it for your approval before cutting.
