Copper and brass demand across HCMC
Ho Chi Minh City and its surrounding provinces form Vietnam’s largest concentration of industries that consume copper and brass components. From electrical equipment and electronics to high-end architecture and interior design, the demand for custom-fabricated copper C1100 and brass C2680 parts continues to grow each year across key industrial clusters:
Electrical equipment manufacturing — District 12, Binh Tan
District 12 and Binh Tan are home to hundreds of companies producing switchboards, circuit breakers, transformers, and UPS systems. These manufacturers need copper busbars, grounding plates, wire connectors, and custom-shaped conductive components — all requiring high-purity copper C1100.
Electronics and hi-tech — Thu Duc City
The Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) in Thu Duc City hosts Samsung, Intel, Nidec, TTI, and dozens of FDI electronics companies. Demand for copper heat spreaders, PCB shims, battery tab connectors for lithium cells, and thermal management components is rising sharply as EV and IoT device trends accelerate.
Architecture and high-end interiors — District 1, District 2 (Thu Duc), District 7
HCMC’s premium real estate market drives strong demand for decorative brass components: laser-cut cladding panels, ornamental screen partitions, door handles, decorative hinges, and brass signage. Brass C2680 is the material of choice thanks to its warm golden color, ability to achieve a mirror polish, and lower cost compared to pure copper.
Craft and jewelry — District 5, District 10
The Cholon area and surrounding districts have a long tradition of brass craftsmanship. Workshops need laser-cut brass for pendants, picture frames, premium bag hardware, and musical instrument parts — small, intricate components where traditional methods cannot achieve the required tolerances.
Copper C1100 applications in HCMC
Copper C1100 (Cu >= 99.9%) offers 100% IACS electrical conductivity and 385 W/m.K thermal conductivity — the highest among common industrial metals. This makes it irreplaceable in the following applications:
Busbars for electrical panels
Copper busbars are the backbone of every power distribution panel. Electrical panel manufacturers across HCMC need busbars with custom shapes — bolt holes at standard pitch, precise bend angles, tin-plated or silver-plated surfaces. Laser cutting replaces die punching when quantities are under 500 pieces or shapes are non-standard.
- Common thicknesses: 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm
- Requirements: Hole tolerance ±0.1mm, clean burr-free edges, flat surface
Heat spreaders for electronics cooling
Copper conducts heat nearly twice as well as aluminum. Thin copper heat spreaders (0.5-2mm) laser-cut to shape are used in LED drivers, GPU modules, power supplies, and industrial controllers. Electronics companies at SHTP and Linh Trung industrial zones typically order 200-5,000 pieces per batch.
- Common thicknesses: 0.5mm, 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm
- Requirements: Clean surface, no oxidation, precise dimensions to fit PCB frames
Grounding plates for data centers
HCMC is Vietnam’s largest data center hub. Each server rack requires copper grounding plates with mounting holes at standard positions. Laser cutting enables production of grounding plates tailored to specific rack layouts, unlike die punching which requires fixed tooling.
- Common thicknesses: 2mm, 3mm
- Requirements: M6/M8 holes at precise positions, tin-plated surface after cutting
Battery tab connectors for EV and energy storage
Vietnam’s lithium battery and energy storage sector is growing rapidly. Tab connectors made from thin copper C1100 (0.3-1.0mm) link individual cells into battery modules — requiring complex shapes with tight tolerances.
- Common thicknesses: 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.8mm
- Requirements: Zero burr, perfectly clean surface, ±0.05mm tolerance (achievable on thin copper)
PCB shims and conductive components
Copper shims placed between PCB layers or under ICs improve thermal and electrical contact. These are small parts (10-50mm), ordered in large quantities, where laser cutting is faster and more precise than stamping.
Brass C2680 applications in HCMC
Brass C2680 (Cu 65%, Zn 35%) combines aesthetics, good machinability, and a price point roughly 40% below pure copper. It is the ideal material for applications that demand both technical performance and visual appeal:
Architectural hardware
HCMC’s premium property market (District 1, District 2, District 7, Phu My Hung) uses large volumes of brass hardware: door handles, decorative hinges, elevator cladding panels, and edge trim. Laser cutting enables intricate patterns that CNC milling or casting cannot match at comparable cost for small runs.
Decorative laser-cut screens and partitions
Metal screen partitions with laser-cut patterns are a booming trend in HCMC interior design. Brass sheet (1-2mm) cut into complex patterns — geometric, floral, calligraphic — is used in hotels, restaurants, showrooms, and luxury villas. Each panel is a unique work of art.
- Common thicknesses: 1.0mm, 1.5mm, 2.0mm
- Sheet size: Up to 1,500 x 3,000mm per panel
- Finishing: Mirror polish, lacquer coating to prevent tarnishing
Signage and nameplates
Brass nameplates with laser-cut text — raised lettering, logos, information plates — serve corporate offices, hotels, and resorts. Edges are clean straight from the laser, ready for plating or protective coating with no secondary finishing needed.
Terminal blocks and electrical connectors
Brass C2680 provides 28% IACS electrical conductivity — sufficient for terminal blocks, wire connectors, and control circuit components. It costs significantly less than pure copper while meeting performance requirements for moderate-current applications.
Musical instruments and craft components
Instrument makers and craft workshops in the Cholon area order laser-cut brass for horn fittings, drum hardware, photo frames, and premium fashion accessories.

Our capabilities for copper and brass
high-power fiber laser cutting
- Copper C1100: 0.5mm to 6mm (optimal: 0.5-3mm)
- Brass C2680: 0.5mm to 6mm (optimal: 0.5-4mm)
- Maximum sheet size: 1,500 x 3,000mm
- Cutting tolerance: ±0.1mm
- Assist gas: High-pressure nitrogen (N2) — mandatory for copper to prevent black oxide
- Edge quality: Clean, burr-free edges in the 0.5-3mm range
Copper is the most difficult material to laser cut due to its ~95% reflectivity at the 1-micrometer wavelength. Our laser fiber 6kW fiber laser features a dedicated back-reflection protection system, enabling safe copper cutting up to 6mm. Brass is significantly easier to cut because zinc reduces reflectivity.
CNC bending — CNC press brake (30-ton)
- Brass: Bends well, ductile, small bend radius possible (R >= 1.0t)
- Copper: Bendable but requires larger radius (R >= 1.5t), soft copper dents easily
- Press force: 36 tons, bending length up to 1,000mm
- Angle tolerance: ±0.5 degrees
Joining and assembly
- Copper: No direct TIG/MIG welding — we use brazing or silver soldering instead. Joints are strong and maintain good electrical conductivity.
- Brass: Brazing works well. TIG welding is possible but zinc evaporation creates fumes, requiring proper ventilation.
Surface finishing
- Mirror polishing — Both copper and brass achieve a stunning mirror finish
- Lacquer coating — Clear protective coat to prevent tarnishing, especially important for decorative brass used outdoors
- Tin plating — Common for busbars and electrical components
- Silver plating — Maximum electrical conductivity for critical connections
- Artificial patina — Chemical treatment for a classic green aged look on decorative applications
Design guidelines for copper and brass laser cutting
Minimum feature sizes
| Parameter | Copper C1100 | Brass C2680 | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum slot width | 0.8mm | 0.5mm | Copper’s high reflectivity demands more energy |
| Minimum hole diameter | 0.8mm (or 1.0t) | 0.5mm (or 0.8t) | t = material thickness |
| Part-to-part spacing | >= 2x thickness | >= 2x thickness | High conductivity causes thermal distortion between close parts |
| Edge-to-hole distance | >= 2x thickness | >= 1.5x thickness | Prevents edge deformation |
| Micro-joint (tab) width | 0.3mm | 0.2mm | Holds small parts in the sheet skeleton |
Critical design rules
- Avoid acute angles (under 45 degrees) — Use a fillet radius of R >= 0.3mm instead. Acute angles on copper create hot spots that cause edge burning.
- Do not place parts too close together — Minimum spacing of 2x material thickness. Copper’s high thermal conductivity means adjacent parts suffer cross-heating.
- Pierce points must be >= 3mm from edges — The initial pierce on copper creates a larger heat-affected zone than on steel.
- Surfaces must be clean — Oil, grease, and fingerprints on copper cause uneven reflection, degrading cut quality. Deliver copper sheet in original packaging; do not remove protective film before cutting.
- Copper bending requires larger radii — R >= 1.5t for copper (soft, dents easily), R >= 1.0t for brass. Where design permits, always use R = 2t for safety.
